Edinburg Casa Cultura
The non-profit and by-laws are finalized and getting processed for this great venue. The Casa Cultura committee has been meeting to prepare for the next stage of this arts center. Anybody wanting to be part of this happening should call Letty at 383-6246 at our Edinburg Sekula Library. I think this is going to be a great anchor for what is soon to be a make over of the area around the square. I will reveal more of my ideas for the square in a later post.

Two things:
One, why did you give EMS another $75,000 of our taxpayer dollars. You don't see the police dept or fire dept. asking for a bailout.
Two, why do you have the edinburg coyotes in executive session this coming city council meeting? What are you trying to hide from the taxpayers?

Our police department and fire departments our a branch of our city goverment. We approve their budgets and provide as they request needed man power and equipment. If there is extra money needed for any of the departments including fire and police it is found in mid-year re-funding. If you read the agendas you will see fire and police do ask for some type of mid-year monies, as do some of our other bigger departments. As far as EMS goes,this amendment was to re-afirm the 75,000.00 that we had already voted on serveral months back. In fact the budget was voted on by the ENTIRE council with the amended amount already in the budget. I wish you had the same concern when Joe gave Supersplash 600,000.00 out of the general fund so they could make payroll. Or when Joe gave Haggers 1,000,000.00 to stay afloat only to have them leave 12 months later. Oh and yes both of these were private owned companies. One more thing, we had no contract with the above companies .
As for the Edinburg Coyotes, I have no idea why they are on the agenda. There is no support info in our packet. At last check (around 3 weeks ago) they were paid up in full. Yes they are going through some changes, but I have no idea what we are going to talk about. As far as why it's in executive session, again I have no idea. It's has to be something legal, I guess. You may want to ask our city attorney. What I am hiding from the taxpayers? NOTHING! Everybody in Edinburg knows how to contact me, why don't you call me and ask these questions or any other you might have. OR IS IT YOU THAT HAS SOMETHING TO HIDE.
I thought you wanted to interact with taxpayers on here? So why are you telling people to call you? If that's the case why the blog?
Why do you continue to bring up things that happened years ago? Our fellow taxpayer brought up things that happend what 4 weeks ago.
If that's the case then talk about the sub contracts you gave to your employer in Rio Grande Steel?

You continue to bring up the past so let's talk about the past. Hiring Joseph Palacios? Hiring Daniel Rios? Hiring Wendy Sturgis? The location of the new library? The over budget on the new city hall? The over budget on the new police station?
And the big one! Contracts you gave to your employer? I'll vote for you but you give a sub contract to my employer. Is that the way things are now?
There are some blogs that really like and dislike you. I enjoy these blogs because it tell us what is really going on in city govt.

You will see that we submit bids to contractors, sometimes our number is good sometimes we are off, therefore not getting all jobs. Let's use your logic. If it is wrong than you should be upset at Joe as well. You see his pharmacy sells meds to our employees, the kicker here is that the city pays for those meds (through insurance) for employees. Still taxpayers money going to pay for those meds. Is it wrong? No I don't think so because he is not selling direct to city. The insurance companies choose to carry Joe in the pool.

Where was your outrage when Joe was throwing money away?

Then maybe he should have played them better, either you play to win or get out of the game. A "W" is a win no matter how close the score was. A good example would be the Hidalgo girls basketball team last night. Congrats to them!!!

The P.D. was not over budget. After we filed on the bond we actually made out quite well. You can blame both the contractor and the acritect for the delays there. The city hall project was supposed to be a two phase project, however when Joe was elected he wanted done all at once, therefore throwing it over budget only the way it was funded (all at once). There has been extra work done, (above contract) at staffs request. The location of the library is really in a good spot. (also the fact that we bought it around 300,000.00 under appraised value is a great thing. check it out) During the summer parents like the fact that the parks and rec and the library are within walking distance for their children. Ask staff at the library how well this works. As for the hiring those people, the only two I voted for was Rios and Wendy. I know you think he was over paid, but Rios's pay was actually a few thousand lower than the previous attorney fees.(check for yourself) Wendy's time was short, but I will tell you that this cities termendous growth happend under her watch. No, she's not totally responsible for that, but it's not a bad thing either (check numbers for yourself)

Why do I want people to call me? Because I like to look people in the eye when I talk to them about their city tax dollars. Blogging is just an avenue of communication. If blogging is the way you choose to communicate then good for you. All im saying is when you want to know facts before you blog information thats not right, then call me for facts. Above that, don't take my word, look it up!
